The Michigan History Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to bringing the stories of our state's past to brilliant life.

Our goal is to put Michigan's history back into circulation by bringing archives alive and making them accessible to the widest possible audience through compelling and relevant media.

In order for history to be fully preserved it is crucial to "get it out of the box" and bring it into the light where it can be viewed and appreciated.

If people aren't talking and reading and thinking about history, there is a risk that it could be lost and forgotten, possibly forever.

That's why the Michigan History Project is telling stories – the exciting, instructive and inspiring stories of the many extraordinary people and places that have made our state their home.

It's through telling that the lessons of the past make the most impact. It's through telling that history comes alive. Excitement, adventure, comedy, tragedy – it's all there, just waiting for a curious hand to lift up the lid.

History is not only the domain of specialists with white gloves in quiet rooms.

History is for everyone.
